Everyone's taste in Kindle protection differs and were all looking for something more important and perceive a different value when it comes to product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I've found important (plus a little of your extra I possibly could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is that they can boil down to two design types--the sleeve and the 'book style' covers. Many people like the protection and feel in the book type cover, plus some be easels or stands. However, We are inside camp where I just prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style will be the way to go.

One positive note, well it is AVAILABLE. I think Amazon does get yourself a bit of an bonus when producing new products-they hold the accessories ready to go. Granted it's not badly as when K3/Keyboard arrived along with a lot of vendors were apparently left flat footed along with a lot of inventory with out new product. I had been sure a whole new Kindle was being released on this occasion when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their own covers! This time around around there are also a number of other alternatives available, but not a complete lot, so again, this one is a minimum of AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is very lightweight--this is both a good as well as a negative depending on the use patterns. Part in the appeal with the sleeve is to take good care of the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts out of this while probably offering more protection. This strategy is light and low profile-- and though there exists padding, it can be more of the 'keep it safe in the small purse' type. I might NOT feel comfortable by using this sleeve in a very rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is certainly minimal rigidity towards the design and the padding is rather thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm unclear how well the whole Kindle would stand up to heavier impact. Again, perfect for some use patterns, not great for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending in your point of view. I like zippers in many places, I'm simply not wild about them near my Kindle screen as I am somewhat of an klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the maintain the zipper away from the actual holding compartment. Not a massive thing, however don't like the prospect of direct contact between your Kindle as well as the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not a nice way to express this, but there's a fairly strong chemical odor if the package is first opened. Following a couple days that is resolving on the other hand could smell it while holding it right approximately my nose. A bit of an switch off and sensitive noses and airways may well not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is a bit rough and pebbly and 2 tone (grey/black for one and two shades of blue to the other)--my sons like the look, however i don't realize that appealing i suspect it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree with me (well, not about the 'pill' part, they have zero idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as We have not taught them this apparently), nevertheless they love the strategies by which the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn completely down--which is good because you are able to slip your hand through it and put it to use to hold or as an attachment site. I love this.

The construction is well done with regards to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I've seen other designs that are capable to keep on top of the sleek profile but use a much more rigid material for better impact protection, that i prefer. I'm a little leery from the zipper design and That's not me a large fan in the material used. However, there are a lot of nice features too, and everything boils down to personal taste and overall it is often a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, simply not for me personally (but these are for my children and so they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least inside my time zone..). Now my boys have been using this sleeve for more than a month now i planned to give a couple comments. On the plus side the chemical odor did fade away completely--no issue during my family, but it absolutely was bad enough which i think someone with reactive airways or perhaps a strong nose could really find it bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, though the way the zipper goes around there was clearly one case from the Kindle receding and striking the tile floor when my youngest thought it absolutely was closed every one of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that might be a problem for someone.

This is training acceptable for my kiddos...at now I'd be giving a 4.5 stars basically could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but much less snug to produce it difficult to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking up with the Kindle in it, you almost feel as if there cannot be anything in there, because the Kindle is indeed light too.

Feels like there could possibly be a touch of extra space around the side in order to accommodate the Kindle Touch, which can be slightly larger than the new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels like the case was designed just to the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft plus a bit spongy, and feels want it will offer you good protection for the Kindle. Personally i think comfortable tossing this in the bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
