Everyone's taste in Kindle protection differs and were all looking for something more important and perceive some other value with regards to product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I find important (plus a bit of your extra I possibly could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is that they boil down to two design types--the sleeve as well as the 'book style' covers. Many people much like the protection and feel with the book type cover, plus some function as easels or stands. However, We are in the camp where I recently prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style will be the method to go.

One positive note, well it can be AVAILABLE. I think Amazon does get yourself a bit of an bonus when creating new products-they have the accessories ready to go. Granted it isn't really badly as when K3/Keyboard arrived around the scene as well as a great deal of vendors were apparently left flat footed with a large amount of inventory with no new product. I was sure a whole new Kindle was coming out on this occasion when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on his or her covers! This time around there may also be several other alternatives available, but not an entire lot, so again, this one is a minimum of AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is very lightweight--this is both an optimistic along with a negative depending on your own use patterns. Part of the appeal from the sleeve is to maintain the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts using this while most likely offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there is padding, it is more of an 'keep it safe in a very small purse' type. I'd personally NOT feel safe using this sleeve in a rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is certainly minimal rigidity to the design and also the padding is fairly thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm unclear how good the whole Kindle would withstand heavier impact. Again, perfect for some use patterns, not too great for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending on the point of view. I love zippers in several places, I'm not wild about the subject near my Kindle screen as I'm a lttle bit of the klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep your zipper away from your actual holding compartment. Not a tremendous thing, however don't such as the prospect of direct contact relating to the Kindle and the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not just a nice way to convey this, but there is a fairly strong chemical odor in the event the package is first opened. After having a couple days this is resolving however i can continue to smell it while holding it right up to my nose. A bit of the switch off and sensitive noses and airways may well not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is just a little rough and pebbly and a couple tone (grey/black for one and two shades of blue for the other)--my sons much like the look, on the other hand don't discover that appealing and I suspect that it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree beside me (well, not in relation to its the 'pill' part, they have zero idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as I've not taught them this apparently), nevertheless they love the way the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn entirely down--which is good because it is possible to slip your hand through it and use it to transport or as an attachment site. I prefer this.

The construction itself is very well done when it comes to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I've seen other designs that are in a situation to take proper care of the sleek profile but use a more rigid material for better impact protection, which I prefer. I'm a little leery in the zipper design and I am not a major fan with the material used. However, there are lots of nice features too, and it all boils right down to personal taste and overall it is often a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, simply not personally (but these are for the children and they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least in my time zone..). Now my boys happen to be using this sleeve for on the month now and i also desired to add a couple comments. On the plus side caffeine odor did fade completely--no issue during my family, but it absolutely was bad enough that we think someone with reactive airways or possibly a strong nose could really think it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, nevertheless the way the zipper goes around there is one case in the Kindle receding and punching the tile floor when my youngest thought it had been closed every certainly one of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that might be a concern for someone.

This is working out fine for my kiddos...at now I'd be giving a 4.5 stars if I could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but not very snug to generate it difficult to fit the Kindle into. Case is VERY light and thin, picking it up with the Kindle in it, you almost think that there cannot be anything in there, because the Kindle is indeed light too.

Feels like there could be a touch of extra space for the side in order to support the Kindle Touch, which is slightly larger than the new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels much like the case was created just to the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft along with a bit spongy, and feels want it will give you good protection for the Kindle. I'm comfortable tossing this inside a bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
