Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is unique and we have been all seeking different things and perceive a different value with regards to product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I have found important (plus a little associated with an extra I could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is that they can boil into two design types--the sleeve along with the 'book style' covers. Many people like the protection and feel with the book type cover, plus some work as easels or stands. However, I'm within the camp where I just prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style could be the way to go.

One positive note, well it really is AVAILABLE. I do believe Amazon does have a bit of an bonus when putting out new products-they possess the accessories ready to go. Granted it's not badly as when K3/Keyboard came out as well as a lot of vendors were apparently left flat footed with a good deal of inventory no new product. I had been sure a whole new Kindle was coming out this time around when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their covers! Now around there will also be other alternatives available, but not an entire lot, so again, this one is at the very least AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is extremely lightweight--this is both a good and a negative depending on your use patterns. Part from the appeal with the sleeve is always to take care of the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts out of this while probably offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there's padding, it's more of a 'keep it safe in the small purse' type. I would NOT feel at ease using this sleeve in the rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is certainly minimal rigidity on the design along with the padding is rather thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm unsure how well the whole Kindle would resist heavier impact. Again, perfect for some use patterns, not so great for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending on your reason for view. I love zippers in many places, I'm just not wild about them near my Kindle screen as I am a lttle bit of an klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep your zipper away in the actual holding compartment. Not a massive thing, but I don't like the prospect of direct contact relating to the Kindle along with the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not just a nice way to say this, but there is a fairly strong chemical odor if the package is first opened. From a couple days this is resolving on the other hand can still smell it while holding it right approximately my nose. A bit of an shut off and sensitive noses and airways may well not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is just a little rough and pebbly as well as tone (grey/black for starters and 2 shades of blue for the other)--my sons such as the look, however don't discover that appealing and I suspect it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree with me at night (well, not concerning the 'pill' part, they don't have any idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as We have not taught them this apparently), nonetheless they love just how the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn all just how up down--which is good because you are able to slip your hand through it and put it to use to carry or as a possible attachment site. I prefer this.

The construction itself is adequately done in terms of assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. We have seen other designs which are capable of take good care of the sleek profile but use a more rigid material for better impact protection, which I prefer. I'm a bit leery from the zipper design and I am not a large fan in the material used. However, there are lots of nice features too, and it all boils right down to personal taste and overall it is often a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, simply not for me personally (but these are for my children and they also love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least during my time zone..). Now my boys happen to be by using this sleeve for over the month now i planned to add a couple comments. On the plus side the chemical odor did fade away completely--no issue in my family, but it was bad enough which i think someone with reactive airways or perhaps a strong nose could really think it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, but the way the zipper goes around there were one case in the Kindle falling out and punching the tile floor when my youngest thought it had been closed all the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that may be a problem for someone.

This is training for my kiddos...at now I'd be giving a 4.5 stars basically could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but not very snug to make it tough to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking it down with all the Kindle in it, you almost think that there is not anything in there, because the Kindle is really light too.

Feels like there could possibly be a touch of extra space about the side as a way to allow for the Kindle Touch, that is slightly larger compared to the new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels much like the case was made just for the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft plus a bit spongy, and feels want it will offer good protection for your Kindle. I am comfortable tossing this in a very bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
