Everyone's taste in Kindle protection differs and we have been all searching for different things and perceive an alternative value with regards to product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack a couple of key features I find important (plus a bit of an extra I can do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is that they boil down to two design types--the sleeve as well as the 'book style' covers. Many people like the protection and feel from the book type cover, plus some work as easels or stands. However, We are inside the camp where I recently prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style could be the method to go.

One positive note, well it really is AVAILABLE. I do think Amazon does get yourself a bit of an bonus when producing new products-they have the accessories ready to go. Granted it is not as bad as when K3/Keyboard arrived along with a lots of vendors were apparently left flat footed and with a lot of inventory no new product. I accustomed to be sure a fresh Kindle was released this time around when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on his or her covers! This time around there may also be several other alternatives available, however, not a complete lot, so again, this one is at least AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is quite lightweight--this is both a positive along with a negative depending in your use patterns. Part from the appeal of the sleeve is always to maintain the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts out of this while most likely offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there exists padding, it is more of a 'keep it safe inside a small purse' type. I'd personally NOT feel at ease by using this sleeve in the rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is minimal rigidity on the design as well as the padding is pretty thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm not sure how good the whole Kindle would stand up to heavier impact. Again, perfect for some use patterns, not so perfect for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending in your reason for view. I like zippers in several places, I'm just not wild about the subject near my Kindle screen as I am somewhat of the klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep the zipper away from the actual holding compartment. Not a huge thing, however don't like the possibility of direct contact relating to the Kindle along with the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not a nice way to convey this, but there exists a fairly strong chemical odor once the package is first opened. From a couple days this really is resolving but I could smell it while holding it right around my nose. A bit of the switch off and sensitive noses and airways may not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is a bit rough and pebbly and two tone (grey/black for one and two shades of blue to the other)--my sons like the look, but I don't realize that appealing and I suspect who's will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree with me (well, not in regards to the 'pill' part, they don't have any idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as We've not taught them this apparently), but they love the way the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn completely down--which is great because it can be done to slip your hand through it and utilize it to transport or as a possible attachment site. I prefer this.

The construction itself is well done when it comes to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I've seen other designs which can be in a posture to take proper care of the sleek profile but use a much more rigid material for better impact protection, which I prefer. I'm somewhat leery of the zipper design and I'm not a big fan in the material used. However, there are plenty of nice features too, and everything boils down to personal taste and overall it is often a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, simply not to me (but these are for the kids and they also love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least inside my time zone..). Now my boys have been applying this sleeve for over the month now and i also planned to put in a couple comments. On the plus side mit odor did disappear completely--no issue in my family, but it had been bad enough that we think someone with reactive airways or a strong nose could really think it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, nevertheless the way the zipper goes around there was clearly one case from the Kindle receding and striking the tile floor when my youngest thought it had been closed all the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that may be an issue for someone.

This is exercising fine for my kiddos...at this time I'd give a 4.5 stars only could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but not very snug to produce it challenging to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking it with the Kindle in it, you almost feel like there can not be anything in there, considering that the Kindle is indeed light too.

Feels like there might be a touch of extra space on the side to be able to allow for the Kindle Touch, which is slightly larger than the new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels much like the case was made just to the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft along with a bit spongy, and feels enjoy it will offer good protection to the Kindle. Personally i think comfortable tossing this inside a bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
