Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is different and we have been all looking for various things and perceive a different value in terms of product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I've found important (plus a lttle bit of your extra I possibly could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is they boil down to two design types--the sleeve and the 'book style' covers. Many people much like the protection and feel in the book type cover, plus some be easels or stands. However, I am in the camp where I recently prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style may be the approach to go.

One positive note, well it is AVAILABLE. I do believe Amazon does get yourself a bit of the bonus when creating new products-they hold the accessories prepared to go. Granted it isn't as bad as when K3/Keyboard arrived as well as a large amount of vendors were apparently left flat footed with a whole lot of inventory with no new product. I used to be sure a new Kindle was released now when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their covers! This time around there will also be other alternatives available, and not a whole lot, so again, this one is at least AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is extremely lightweight--this is both a positive plus a negative depending on your own use patterns. Part from the appeal with the sleeve is always to keep up with the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts from this while probably offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there is padding, it really is more of the 'keep it safe in a small purse' type. I would NOT feel at ease applying this sleeve in a very rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is certainly minimal rigidity towards the design and also the padding is pretty thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm unclear how well the whole Kindle would withstand heavier impact. Again, great for some use patterns, not perfect for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending on your reason for view. I like zippers in many places, I'm just not wild about them near my Kindle screen as I will be somewhat of the klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep your zipper away in the actual holding compartment. Not an enormous thing, however i don't such as the possibility of direct contact between your Kindle as well as the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not just a nice way to state this, but there is a fairly strong chemical odor if the package is first opened. After a couple days that is resolving however i can still smell it while holding it right up to my nose. A bit of an shut off and sensitive noses and airways may well not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is just a little rough and pebbly as well as tone (grey/black for starters and 2 shades of blue for that other)--my sons much like the look, however don't realize that appealing i suspect which it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree beside me (well, not about the 'pill' part, they haven't any idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as I have not taught them this apparently), nevertheless they love the best way the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band isn't sewn all the way up down--which is nice because it can be done to slip your hand through it and put it to use to hold or as an attachment site. I prefer this.

The construction is perfectly done in terms of assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. We've seen other designs which are able to keep on top of the sleek profile but use a much more rigid material for better impact protection, that i prefer. I'm a little leery with the zipper design and That's not me a major fan of the material used. However, there are plenty of nice features too, and all this boils as an effect of personal taste and overall it can be a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, just not for me (but these are for my children and so they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least inside my time zone..). Now my boys happen to be using this sleeve for more than a month now and that i planned to give a couple comments. On the plus side the chemical odor did disappear completely--no issue within my family, but it turned out bad enough that we think someone with reactive airways or possibly a strong nose could really believe it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, though the way the zipper goes around there was one case of the Kindle receding and hitting the tile floor when my youngest thought it absolutely was closed every certainly one of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that could possibly be an issue for someone.

This is exercising for my kiddos...at now I'd give a 4.5 stars easily could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but not too snug to create it tough to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking it with all the Kindle in it, you almost feel as if there is not anything in there, considering that the Kindle is so light too.

Feels like there may be a touch of extra space about the side as a way to support the Kindle Touch, which is slightly larger as opposed to new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels like the case was designed just for the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft along with a bit spongy, and feels enjoy it will offer good protection to the Kindle. Personally i think comfortable tossing this in the bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
