Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is different and we're all seeking different things and perceive a different value in terms of product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I have found important (plus a little of your extra I possibly could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is that they can boil right down to two design types--the sleeve along with the 'book style' covers. Lots of people such as the protection and feel from the book type cover, plus some work as easels or stands. However, I am in the camp where I just prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style could be the method to go.

One positive note, well it's AVAILABLE. I do think Amazon does get yourself a bit of a bonus when producing new products-they have the accessories able to go. Granted it is not as bad as when K3/Keyboard arrived about the scene and a lots of vendors were apparently left flat footed with plenty of inventory and no new product. I was sure a whole new Kindle was being released now when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their own covers! This time around there are also other alternatives available, however, not an entire lot, so again, this one is at the very least AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is very lightweight--this is both a positive plus a negative depending on your use patterns. Part with the appeal from the sleeve is to maintain the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts from this while probably offering more protection. This product is light and low profile-- and though there exists padding, it can be more of your 'keep it safe in a very small purse' type. I'd personally NOT feel comfortable by using this sleeve in a very rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There is minimal rigidity towards the design and the padding is rather thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm unsure how good the whole Kindle would endure heavier impact. Again, great for some use patterns, less than great for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending on your point of view. I love zippers in several places, I'm not wild about them near my Kindle screen as I am a little of a klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the maintain your zipper away from your actual holding compartment. Not an enormous thing, however i don't much like the potential for direct contact involving the Kindle as well as the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not just a nice way to say this, but there's a fairly strong chemical odor once the package is first opened. Following a couple days that is resolving on the other hand can continue to smell it while holding it right around my nose. A bit of a shut off and sensitive noses and airways might not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is somewhat rough and pebbly and two tone (grey/black for starters and two shades of blue for that other)--my sons like the look, however don't discover that appealing and I suspect that it will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree beside me (well, not about the 'pill' part, they haven't any idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as I have not taught them this apparently), nonetheless they love the way in which the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band is not sewn all just how up down--which is great because you are able to slip your hand through it and apply it to carry or being an attachment site. I like this.

The construction is adequately done with regards to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I have seen other designs which can be able to take care of the sleek profile but use a more rigid material for better impact protection, that i prefer. I'm a little leery in the zipper design and That's not me a big fan of the material used. However, there are a lot of nice features too, and all of it boils down to personal taste and overall it can be a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, simply not to me (but these are for my children and so they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least during my time zone..). Now my boys have been by using this sleeve for more than a month now i planned to give a couple comments. On the plus side mit odor did disappear completely--no issue during my family, but it turned out bad enough i think someone with reactive airways or even a strong nose could really think it is bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, nevertheless the way the zipper goes around there were one case in the Kindle falling out and punching the tile floor when my youngest thought it turned out closed all of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that could possibly be an issue for someone.

This is exercising for my kiddos...at now I'd give a 4.5 stars easily could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but much less snug to create it tough to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking it using the Kindle in it, you almost feel as if there cannot be anything in there, considering that the Kindle is really light too.

Feels like there could possibly be a touch of extra space around the side to be able to accommodate the Kindle Touch, which is slightly larger as opposed to new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels much like the case was designed just for your new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft along with a bit spongy, and feels enjoy it will offer you good protection for the Kindle. I'm comfortable tossing this in a very bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
