Everyone's taste in Kindle protection is unique and we're all seeking something more important and perceive a different value in terms of product cost vs. features. This Kindle cover has several nice attributes, but does lack several key features I have found important (plus a bit of your extra I could do without).

One thing about Kindle covers is they boil down to two design types--the sleeve and the 'book style' covers. Lots of people just like the protection and feel in the book type cover, plus some be easels or stands. However, We are within the camp where I merely prefer holding a 'naked' Kindle while reading. For people like me, the sleeve style will be the way to go.

One positive note, well it really is AVAILABLE. I think Amazon does obtain a bit of a bonus when producing new products-they contain the accessories ready to go. Granted it's not badly as when K3/Keyboard arrived about the scene and a large amount of vendors were apparently left flat footed and with a great deal of inventory and no new product. I had been sure a fresh Kindle was released now when several sellers were suddenly slashing prices on their own covers! This time around around there will also be other alternatives available, however, not an entire lot, so again, this one is no less than AVAILABLE.

This sleeve is extremely lightweight--this is both an optimistic as well as a negative depending on your own use patterns. Part of the appeal of the sleeve is to keep up with the sleek nature of my Kindle. A heavy or bulky sleeve detracts using this while almost certainly offering more protection. This technique is light and low profile-- and though there is certainly padding, it can be more of your 'keep it safe in the small purse' type. I'd NOT feel at ease by using this sleeve in a very rougher environment (like my children's backpacks--or even mine). There's minimal rigidity towards the design as well as the padding is pretty thin--it will protect the screen, but I'm not sure how good the whole Kindle would stand up to heavier impact. Again, perfect for some use patterns, less than great for others.

The zipper--positive or negative depending on your own reason for view. I love zippers in many places, I'm just not wild about the subject near my Kindle screen as I'm a little of an klutz. Some designers put a protective fold or flap the keep the zipper away from the actual holding compartment. Not a tremendous thing, on the other hand don't such as the possibility of direct contact involving the Kindle and the zipper.

The materials-hmmm. Not just a nice way to convey this, but there exists a fairly strong chemical odor in the event the package is first opened. From a couple days this really is resolving on the other hand could smell it while holding it right up to my nose. A bit of an turn off and sensitive noses and airways may not enjoy this!

The materials again--the fabric is just a little rough and pebbly as well as tone (grey/black for just one and two shades of blue for the other)--my sons like the look, but I don't discover that appealing and that i suspect who's will 'pill' after awhile. The household Y chromosomes disagree when camping (well, not regarding the 'pill' part, they have no idea what I'm talking about--one of my parenting failures as We have not taught them this apparently), however they love the best way the covers look.

The little (presumably) faux leather band just isn't sewn entirely down--which is great because you are able to slip your hand through it and put it to use to hold or being an attachment site. I prefer this.

The construction is adequately done with regards to assembly. A very clean, tidy and quality look.

Overall, I give this 4 stars as. I've seen other designs which can be capable to take good care of the sleek profile but use a more rigid material for better impact protection, which I prefer. I'm just a little leery of the zipper design and That's not me a huge fan with the material used. However, there are plenty of nice features too, and everything boils into personal taste and overall it can be a nice, quality, sleeve.

Recommended, not for me (but these are for the kids and they love them).

EDITED 11/17/11 (at least in my time zone..). Now my boys are actually using this sleeve for over a month now and i also desired to put in a couple comments. On the plus side caffeine odor did disappear completely--no issue during my family, but it had been bad enough which i think someone with reactive airways or a strong nose could really find it bothersome. No 'pilling' or zipper issues yet, nevertheless the way the zipper goes around there was clearly one case from the Kindle falling out in clumps and hitting the tile floor when my youngest thought it was closed every one of the way. Obviously user error (the Kindle was fine thankfully!) but design-wise that might be an issue for someone.

This is training fine for my kiddos...at now I'd be giving a 4.5 stars only could!

Excellent case, fits the Kindle very nicely. Snug, but much less snug to generate it challenging to fit the Kindle into. Case itself is VERY light and thin, picking up with the Kindle in it, you almost feel like there can not be anything in there, since the Kindle can be so light too.

Feels like there could possibly be a touch of extra space around the side in order to allow for the Kindle Touch, that is slightly larger as opposed to new Kindle. Nevertheless it feels like the case was created just for the new Kindle without touch, it fits very well.

The inside material is soft along with a bit spongy, and feels as it will offer you good protection for that Kindle. I feel comfortable tossing this inside a bag or backpack without worrying about damaging the Kindle.

Zipper goes around 2 sides only, and works very smoothly. Great case!
